“I actually, we worked very closely with Chuck Schumer and Amy Klobuchar on this, we did engage them in the process, it was Senator Klobuchar and Frank Lautenberg, who were former members of the committee, they were the two people on the same side of this. And my understanding is Chuck Schumer, who is now Majority Leader, I know that he did intervene. Ultimately the steering committee chose to ultimately vote in favor of some significant tax relief and changes that actually had been suggested by Senator Shelby and [Congressman] Butterfield in the initial draft. They also did rule out a 40% tax rate for drillers, which was indicated in their initial draft to be part of an overall deal on this bill. Again, these changes were actually proposed by my team and Senator Shelby, I think, worked very closely with Senator McConnell on this.”
