Tyler Oakley is the first celebrity to appear on Twitch’s new video platform, with Twitch allegedly changing it for fear of losing viewers
He’s the most popular man on TikTok. And he doesn’t say a word
Most people love to make a fool of themselves in front of the world – so it should come as no surprise that Tyler Oakley is one of the first stars to be featured on Twitch’s new video service, which opens on Tuesday.
Oakley will be followed on the feature-length channel, known as the TikTok channel, by Charlie Day and The Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. The TikTok channel already attracts more than 15 million views per day, making it one of the top trending channels on Twitch, according to the company.
Viewers can join daily Twitch chats on the channel by saying the username “tehevts” (a play on tiktaku and hide and seek) and choosing the mode to participate in. Previously, viewers were forced to join every chat on the channel.
Twitch is best known for its live streams of gamers and users’ gameplay, in which viewers can ask questions and comment on the stream via text chat. But in November last year, it launched a channel dedicated to celebrities, which allows users to ask them questions live and chat with the celebrities they are following.
The channel will offer a mix of live and recorded streams, and will offer users the chance to engage with celebrities for free.
